Losing Touch and Gone Away. Who is Sinking Now

it hurts.
like a knife.
like cold piercing you.
like falling slowly deeper and deeper into a murky, grey-green body of water where you can only get farther and farther from the surface but you're so numb you know there is no going back up, only down. 
only deeper.

it's the feeling of losing touch slowly with everyone you love and was ever close to.

people grow up.
people go away.

and you're left.

because they went and you stayed and it wasn't even ever your choice.

so you tread the icy waters as long as you can

but eventually they can't hear you.
they can't see you.

and it could have been prevented if they would have just reached out a hand towards YOU.
because all your grasping out cold, petrified limbs can do is reach so far.
they can't do anything unless someone takes ahold.

so i'll continue to sink.
