Literature Text
i have cried a small river in the set of the sun
but there will be no life from the salty infertile land.
the floodgates of sorrow have burst at death's strike.
and dealt to me an unfathomable hand.
a light and star that had shone here on earth
in laughter and wit and song and dance
returned to the skies, too soon i believe.
i no longer believe in the fates or in chance.
all things happen as they're meant to, i'm sure
but "why?" is a question unanswered yet asked.
you pick from the garden the best of the flowers
and the best of the times are times that can't last.
an angel with wings that spread out to so many
for "best" and "most wonderful" are words fit for her.
the river of tears joins many a cried stream
and now she is gone - oh unspeakable words.
a fallen star's shine is not brightest on earth.
that lesson i learned from someone long ago.
but we can still love them when they shine from the sky
and we can wait and remember the starlight that shone.
